The Sweatshop

The Sweatshop is a cafe in Townsville, Queensland (Australia) featuring a variety of toasted sandwiches called "jaffles" in Australian vernacular. Jaffles are made using jaffle irons (American English: pie irons or sandwich toasters), which are square-shaped, portable ovens that seal the edges of a sandwich together while toasting. The Sweatshop reports that as many as 40% of jaffle irons are not used in Australia today, and seek to save the jaffle from extinction.

The Sweatshop's menu features frittatas, gelato, pancakes, and artisan coffee alongside the jaffles. Aside from the food, The Sweatshop features an art gallery and retail space, and hosts a variety of events ranging from UNO tournaments to fashion shows.
